Jarvis Landry :: Player Page
Smitty’s Take: After Tyrod Taylor (concussion) got injured in the 2nd-quarter of Thursday night’s Week 3 game between the Jets and Browns, Baker Mayfield entered the game and was masterful in his engineering of a comeback win. He didn’t go nuts from a fantasy perspective, but he was efficient from a football perspective, completing 17-of-23 passes for 201 yards, zero touchdowns and zero interceptions. Not a bad night for just a little over two quarters of play. One has to be accountable in this industry, so I’m going to admit I was wrong with Mayfield. It’s early, and he has played very little so far, but he looks legit and could very well be a top 10 fantasy QB of the future. I was wrong. Browns fans have to be ecstatic after being down 14-0 in the late second-quarter, then their future passer enters the game and he pulls off a big win. Amazing. This is fantastic news for Jarvis Landry and Antonio Callaway, who now have fantasy relevance every single week. Callaway didn’t have a big game, pulling in 4/20/0TDs, but his stat line doesn’t pain the entire picture. He was under-thrown by Tyrod Taylor on a sure-bet touchdown bomb, and he had a few drops that would have had him finishing with a much different stat line. Give him time. Landry had a huge night pulling in 8 passes for 103 yards, and he looked pumped to have his franchise passer in the line-up. And, then there was Carlos Hyde, who got things going after Mayfield entered the game, as Baker finally instilled a long-ball threat to that Jets defense, and Hyde responded with 98 yards and 2TDs. Ladies and gentlemen, the Cleveland Browns are now in the business of producing fantasy relevant athletes. As for the Jets, only the running backs did much of note from a fantasy perspective… Isaiah Crowell ran for 2TDs and 34 yards, while Bilal Powell rushed for 73 yards on 14 carries. Darnold bombed with just 169/0TDs/2INTs, and in turn his receivers did. Get ready, Browns fans… you have yourself an entirely new look offense and an already-awesome defense.
