News: Christian McCaffrey to run more; Moore signs

July 3, 2018 |

Smitty’s Take: Panthers coach Ron Rivera has recently stated that he wants Christian McCaffrey to handle a big workload in 2018. “Everybody forgets when he was in college he ran between the tackles more than anybody and he touched the ball more than anybody,” Rivera said. “So I don’t see why not.” McCaffrey pulled in 80 receptions last year for 651 yards and 5TDs, while only rushing the ball 117 times for 435 yards (3.7) and 2TDs. Eighty receptions is a huge number for a rookie, so expect to see the trust between coaches and player build even more heading into 2018. It wouldn’t shock me to see the same receiving totals in 2018 for the rusher, but maybe with more like 600-700 rushing yards. DJ Moore (who recently signed his rookie deal) and Devin Funchess are good receivers, and add in a healthy Greg Olsen (who only played 7 games last year)… Cam Newton could bounce-back in a major way in 2018.
