News: Josh Gordon a concern?

Smitty’s Take: Well, there is a bit of Josh Gordon news floating around newswires right now. ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting that Gordon “did not have any slip ups or failed tests.” This was in response to some earlier reports, which came out during the earlier part of the day, that spoke to his recent absence with teammates. So, the first report showed concern, with hints of the possibility that there was some bad news somewhere in all of this, but other reports quickly surfaced speaking to Gordon’s response to all the rumors, and that response merely had Gordon telling news outlets that his absense was ‘pro-active’ and that he would join his teammates soon enough. Well, circling back to the ESPN report that we led with, it sounds like Schefter is confirming Gordon’s version of this story, that there is no concern, or bad news, on the way. The only curious thing was a tweet by an NFL Network reporter, which read:
(@TomPelissero) NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy on Josh Gordon, whom #Browns have placed on non-football illness list: 'No timetable. We'll address the matter at the appropriate time.'
Honestly, we’re not sure what to think as far as Gordon’s Week 1 availability. You can read Josh Gordon’s tweet here. If Gordon isn’t ready for Week 1 (which we cannot assume is the case – yet), or misses time for whatever reason, this would increase the value of Jarvis Landry a touch, as there are currently a lot of mouths to feed in Cleveland. I like Tyrod Taylor more than most, and I do feel he will surprise fantasy worlds (his overall TD and rushing stats will add up); however, he isn’t the kind of passer that tosses for insane amounts of yardage, which makes it tough to love both Josh Gordon and Jarvis Landry in 2018. If one was not to play, this opens the door to more targets for the receiver that is on the field. Again, we don’t know if there is, or isn’t, reason for concern when it comes to Gordon’s Week 1 availability, but we venture to say that more info, good or bad, will surface soon. Stay tuned.
