Players opt out for the season

XtremeXtreme Posts: 5,243
I had 12 offers out but just pulled all of them...for fear the player I’m receiving will opt out for the season and then the other owner accepts my offer before I see the news. I guess I better wait until Aug. 3rd before sending out more offers.

Pats have had 6 so far opt out. Hoodie is tanking perfectly. Trevor Lawrence to Pats.

I highly doubt players on the Pats would opt out of their high salaries to simply fold for a rookie they may not even get. I don't think that's in the plan for Cam at least. I find it very difficult to see the Patriots worse than the Jets.

You know Hoodie is breaking rules left & right. Players are probably taking their Covid tests with Pads on. 3 practices a day......haha.

    D. Williams opting out is HUGE if we end up having an actual season. There's really no on standing in the way for touches for CEH after that.

Haven't really read what this opt out totally means....does this mean they immediately opt out of entire season? Or does it have pup like designations where they can come back later on?
  • farfromhomefarfromhome Posts: 2,002
I read that its the entire season because players number comes off cap ...makes sense I guess
  • IcemanIceman Posts: 6,123
It is for the entire season and the contract tolls to next season. There is stipend also.

    OPTING OUT—Marquise Lee, NEP WR

    From Rotoworld:

Patriots WR Marqise Lee has opted out of the 2020 season.

This is a voluntary opt-out — Lee will miss the season for personal reasons. He joins a growing list of Patriots, including LB Dont'a Hightower, SS Patrick Chung and RT Marcus Cannon. Lee played in just six games with Jacksonville last year and was on the outside looking in for a roster spot. His one-year contract will toll into 2021.
    D3:
    QB—Allen, Big Ben, Fitz, Tyrod
RB—EE, Henry, Cohen, Mostert, Evans (R), Coleman, JSamuels, Pollard
WR—MThomas, Diggs, Chark, Harry, Lamb (R), Hardman, Butler, Lazard
    TE—Doyle, Jonnu, Thomas
    PK—Zuerlein
    DEF—Ravens

    D4:
    QB—Watson, Stafford, Fitz
RB—Conner, David & Duke Johnson, Cohen, Howard, Breida, Burkhead, JSamuels, Edmonds
WR—Hill, Allen, Golladay, Jeudy (R), Jeffery, Jefferson (R), Amendola, Miller, Butler, Watson
    TE—Olsen, Thomas, Kmet, Trautman
    PK—Gostkowski, Prater
    DEF—Bears, Jags

From what I understand If a player opts out this season then they get $150,000 but if they don’t get resigned next year with the same team then they owe the $150,000

Interesting. I was under the impression that if they opt out the $150,000 is basically a cash advance and the rest of their contract rolls into 2021. So if a player with a $300,000 contract opts out, they would get the advance this year and next year they would be playing on a $150,000 contract.

    Geronimo Allison WR, Detroit Lions
Lions WR Geronimo Allison opted out of the 2020 season.

Allison wasn't projected to start for the Lions but he did have a chance to take the field on some receiver-heavy sets. He was expected to be the fourth receiver, behind Kenny Golladay, Marvin Jones, and Danny Amendola. Allison caught 34 passes for 287 yards and two scores in Green Bay last year.

    Ja'Wuan James T, Denver Broncos
Broncos T Ja'Wuan James opted out of the 2020 season.

James started three games for Denver last year after five seasons at right tackle for Miami. NT Kyle Peko is the only other Bronco to opt out so far.
