When to start taking IDPs.

Do you all have any general advice on when to start drafting IDP players? The rule I'm hearing is take a complete starting OFF (aside from K) and then go. So round 5-7?

I'm in a 14-man redraft, and am trying to get a SENSE of when to start taking IDPs.
We start 15: qb-rb-wr-wr-te-flex-flex-lb-lb-de/dt-de/dt-cb/s-cb/s-k.

In drafts like this, I try to use a tier system. Then I can draft offense until tiers start getting thin.

@wickerkat1212 can you look and see the player points for last year?
If so judge the impact those D guys have on your week to week scoring. Then like George said you can tier players by points gained and see if you want to try and snipe a couple of IDP guys before the rush.

New league. I mean, I can look at IDP in general. Good idea. Set up tiers.

Typically I let the draft decide that. There is always one guy who will be the first to reach for the top LB, but in reality there isn’t as much scoring differences between the top 5 or so guys, so you don’t have to be the first.

i did some research today and sorted into tiers. it was very educational. the biggest outlier was darius leonard scoring 335. the next closest LBs were littleton, kuechly, vander esch, wagner, and smith at 250-265. so he might be worth reaching on.

top 20 positions, here is the range and drop-off:

    DE/DT 258 to 167
    LB 335/265 to 207
CB/S 238 to 177 (all were S, top CB was Apple at 169)

does anyone want to take a crack at doing the IDP Rankings for SleeperU, they could use a refresh and you guys are pretty darn good inside this topic. Anyone? If so, DM a top 40 at all three positions!

we could also try to do a consensus ranking, you do that all the time with other positions. lb, cb/s, and de/dt.

When I do a IDP draft or auction I go offense heavy early. Usually all offensive starters unless someone’s value is too much to pass on. (Solid LB)

I like to break it down by position & project what type of point production I need from each position group. If you load up on one position you just have to adjust another.
Never draft a corner early- I actually look for some of the weaker corners as they get more thrown their way.
Go w DE over DT’s as they just produce more w sack totals.

    Good luck!

Thanks, great advice here. Agree on CB and DE.

Man that's some pretty generous scoring there. How do they fair against against wrs and rbs?

    Pretty well.

Top 32 LB runs from 335 to 185.
    Top 32 DE/DT runs from 258 to 148.
    Top 32 S/CB runs from 238 to 159, mostly S.
Top 32 WR runs from 329 to 162.
Top 32 RB runs from 381 to 140.

So, make of that what you will.

so you would have to lump the stud lbers with the rbs and wrs. if one of them is there in the 3rd round i would pounce. i always hate picking a player in the 3rd. you never feel good about the pick.
