Damien Williams - Outlook

FWIW Just saw this at CBS

by RotoWire Staff
(5 hrs ago) Coach Andy Reid said he's asking Williams to be the "full-time starter" for the upcoming season, BJ Kissel of the Chiefs' official website reports. "[Williams] has taken that challenge," Reid said. "He wants to do this thing, and he's earned the right to be that guy. And now it's a matter of production."
Reid and offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy both have made strong comments in support of Williams, shutting down any speculation about Carlos Hyde or Darwin Thompson pushing for a starting job. Including the playoffs, Williams averaged 12.8 carries, 4.7 catches, 100.4 scrimmage yards and 1.7 touchdowns on 43.3 snaps over his final six games last season. He ceded some playing time to Spencer Ware or Charcandrick West each week, but it was Williams who dominated high-value opportunities in the passing game and near the goal line. Reid's 20 seasons as a head coach have yielded just four instances of his team's lead back failing to reach 1,200 scrimmage yards -- and two of those involved season-ending injuries in Week 5.

Damien is a top 10 back in a Patrick Mahomes offense. Damien on the New York Giants and tell me what he look like?

I agree he wouldn’t look the same on just about every other team. The beauty is we don’t have to care about him on another team, just that he’s Andy’s #1 RB in his offense.

Agreed that’s what you’re buying.. the starting KC RB.. not Damien Williams

I see D Will as a top 10 rb this year. The NFL & Fantasy depends a lot on players opportunities, systems, teams. Williams is in a perfect spot to produce big numbers. Ex: Knowshon Moreno as a Top 8 Rb under P Manning.

He'll be a stud when healthy. Then the schedule of 16 games will set in. He's never had more than 50 carries in a season till last year. Its clearly a system position. One that will produce numbers but I would sell high the minute he has a 150+ yard 2TD game. Few of my eggs are with Darwin Thompson though, to close out the year.

Strong feeling this guy is going to be a stud RB1! Grabbed him in the 2.08 in a 14 team!

    Sorry Damien owners..

Andy Reid replied, "We'll do that here," when asked if he'll use a RB-by-committee approach this season.

"I did a little bit of that back when I was in Philadelphia," Reid said. " Kind of a running back by committee deal and we had some success with it. We’ll do that here. ... They all have their strengths and we’ll try to exploit their strengths there." Reid mentioned both Damien and Darrel Williams, Carlos Hyde, and rookie Darwin Thompson all in the same breath. Damien has missed almost all of camp with a strained hamstring but returned to individual drills this week. Hyde has gotten most of the run with the ones in his absence. Damien was a legit RB1 stud down the stretch and into the playoffs last season, but his injury may have spooked Reid. Damien has never been a true workhorse outside of the second half of last season.

And their you have it, the door has opened.

Not worried and I have a few shares. He is still the best option in the passing game and will get the most touches. Hey everyone can score in a Mahomes offense.

This prob drops his ADP into the 3rd.. still could be good value for his floor and his upside would still be just as high

At the very least he’s their best pass-catching RB so he has value in PPR leagues the same way Tarik Cohen/Hines have value. At minimum! I still think he’s the main guy, he hasn’t had much time in camp so it’s probably out of sight out of mind for Andy Reid.

All this talk does is let me get him for cheaper than when Andy Reid was talking him up as the workhorse earlier in camp and when Damien was probably on everyone’s radar.

I just could never get onboard with him.... Then when his adp hit 3rd round it just got crazier....
