Ravens sign Tavon Young to contract extension

The Ravens announced on Thursday that the team will be holding a press conference with General Manager Eric DeCosta, head coach John Harbaugh and an unidentified player on Friday.

It appears that player is cornerback Tavon Young. Jeff Zrebiec of The Athletic reports that Young and the Ravens have agreed to a contract extension.

Young posted a tweet confirming the report a short time later. The terms of the new deal are not known, but Young has one year left on the four-year deal he signed as a 2016 fourth-round pick.

Young missed all of the 2017 season with a torn ACL, but returned to play in 15 games and on over 58 percent of Baltimore’s defensive snaps as a slot corner in 2018. Young missed the playoff loss to the Chargers with a sports hernia he had surgically repaired in January and should be healthy in time for the team’s offseason program.

    Jake Elliott K, Philadelphia Eagles
    Eagles re-signed K Jake Elliott to a one-year contract.

LS Rick Lovato is also returning on a one-year deal. A fifth-round pick out of Memphis in 2017, Elliott was due to be a restricted free agent this offseason. The 24-year-old enjoyed another strong season in 2018, converting 26-of-31 field goal attempts (83.9 percent) with a long of 56 yards.

As a Browns fan I like this....

    Greg Robinson T, Cleveland Browns
    Browns re-signed LT Greg Robinson.

Robinson started eight games for the Browns in the second half of the season, and GM John Dorsey saw enough to bring him back. Robinson has previously voiced that he wanted to return to the organization because the people believe in him. Despite having a mini-breakout in 2018, Robinson shouldn't be viewed as a franchise left tackle yet.

    Ravens waived RB Alex Collins.

Collins gets the boot just nine hours after being arrested for his involvement in a car crash Friday morning. Details regarding his arrest are still scarce, though whatever he did was obviously enough for the Ravens to wash their hands of him. Collins broke out for a team-high 973 rushing yards in 2017 but collapsed last year while losing his starting gig to undrafted rookie Gus Edwards. With Collins out of the equation, Baltimore is sure to address its backfield either in the draft or free agency. Perhaps the Ravens will be one of the teams in pursuit of Le'Veon Bell.

This really opened up Baltimore as a premier landing spot for a rookie rb.....paired with Lamar Jackson whoever lands here will be immediate rb2 out of the gate...

    Brandon Graham DL, Philadelphia Eagles
Eagles re-signed DE Brandon Graham to a three-year contract.

The deal is said to be worth $13 million per year. Graham was headed to free agency in two weeks as a soon-to-be 31-year-old. Most covering the team didn't expect the Eagles to be able to bring Graham back, but the Super Bowl hero has spent his entire career in Philly and could be looking at ending it there. Graham was Pro Football Focus' No. 6-ranked 4-3 end last season despite having just four sacks. Graham has missed just one game over the last seven years. Inking Graham could force the Eagles to make some roster cuts.

Donovan Smith T, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs signed LT Donovan Smith to a three-year, $41.25 million contract.

Smith was franchise tagged on Monday but ended up signing a deal that includes $27 million "fully guaranteed" just 24 hours later. The No. 34 overall pick of the 2015 draft, Smith has never missed a start, but he has also never been an above-average player. The Bucs are paying a premium for Smith's availability. New coach Bruce Arians is no stranger to shaky line play, of course. Still only 26 (in June), there is also still time for Smith to improve.

Devante Parker just got cut. He could be interesting if signed with the right team, say Indy?

    Nice signing...

    Ramon Foster G, Pittsburgh Steelers
Steelers re-signed LG Ramon Foster to a two-year $8.25 million contract.

Foster had been headed to free agency. With the Steelers since 2009, Foster has been a full-time starter since 2011. He had an excellent 2018 after a rough 2017. Foster turned 33 in January.

    Steelers keeping the line together....

    Maurkice Pouncey C, Pittsburgh Steelers
Steelers signed C Maurkice Pouncey to a new three-year, $29 million contract.

Those contract figures are via the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, though ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the full value will be worth $11 million per season. That would make Pouncey the highest-paid center in the league. It appears those numbers are just for the extension years of 2020-21. Going on 30, Pouncey did not miss a game in 2018. He checked in as Pro Football Focus' No. 11-rated center. He is an institution in Pittsburgh.

Brad Childress just signed with the Bears. Now speculation that AP may sign with Chicago. Thus hurting Cohen's chances of exploding. Childress is (in imo) one of the worse coaches in the league. Right behind Jeff Fisher.

    Nice signing for the Rams...

Eric Weddle DB, Los Angeles Rams
Rams signed S Eric Weddle to a two-year, $10.5 million contract.

That escalated quickly. Weddle was just reported to be visiting the Rams on Friday afternoon, and a deal was announced just over an hour later. The move makes sense for Weddle, who lives in Southern California and was almost certainly looking to join a contender at this stage in his career. It also makes sense for the Rams with LaMarcus Joyner headed to free agency. Weddle should slide right into Joyner's spot on defense moving forward.

Ugh!! I didn’t think it was possible to be worse than Fisher!

I thought my Bears were finally doing the right things again. Dammit!

Carlos Hyde RB, Kansas City Chiefs
Chiefs signed Carlos Hyde to a one-year, $2.8 million contract.

Hyde visited with the Chiefs Saturday morning and was signed almost immediately. The $1.6 million he'll earn in guaranteed money is actually more than what 27-year-old starter Damien Williams will cost against the cap ($1.05 million) this upcoming season. Even so, this deal is tremendous news for Williams' fantasy outlook given Hyde's historical lack of involvement out of the backfield as a receiver — an ability Williams flashed with 24/210/3 receiving over Kansas City's final five games (playoffs included). This makes the fourth team Hyde has played for in the last 12 months.
