Classy move by the Steelers.....

Ryan Shazier - LB - Steelers

Steelers converted $8.26 million of ILB Ryan Shazier's (back, PUP) base salary into a signing bonus.
Placed on the PUP on Wednesday, Shazier is not going to play in 2018. The Steelers are doing right by him, however, by paying out the final year of his rookie deal in one lump sum. Shazier has said he is targeting 2019 for a return, but it seems unlikely he ever gets back on the field.

Completely agree! The Rooney’s are a class act. I doubt you would see someone like Jerry Jones do something like this.

Jerry Jones would shake his hand...as he terminates his contract.

Yeah, love the fact they went out and did this. They clearly didn’t have to but it shows a lot of class to go about this the way they did.
  • Awesome!! =D>

Pretty damn impressive by Shazier and the Rooney's continued class.

Ryan Shazier - LB - Steelers

Steelers president Art Rooney II said ILB Ryan Shazier (back) has recently resumed jogging.
Unable to walk on his own a year ago, Shazier is making "amazing progress" according to Rooney. "Almost every week, he’s doing something he wasn’t doing the week before," Rooney said. "He’s a remarkable young man and an inspiration to everybody around here." Shazier is set to become a free agent in March, but Rooney has indicated the team wants to re-sign him so he can continue his rehabilitation.

  • Amazing - this should be used as an example to all owners of how to run a morally conscious organization!

Ryan Shazier LB, Unsigned Free Agent
Steelers placed LB Ryan Shazier on the reserved/retired list.

This basically ends any chance of Shazier returning to the football field after sustaining a life-altering back injury in 2017, but it does allow him to continue using the Steelers' resources for his recovery. The Rooney family has been gracious with their commitment to Shazier, who has made impressive progress the last two years all things considered. A two-time Pro Bowler with super star potential, Shazier is the latest example of how fragile a career in the NFL can be given it's violence. Only 27 years old, we wish Shazier a fantastic post-football career if that's what it has come to.
