Trades and Signings 2020-2021 Season

Should have replaced the offseason moves thread much earlier but here we go, trade deadline is approaching.

Markus Golden DL, Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals acquired DE Markus Golden from the Cardinals in exchange for a 2021 sixth-round pick.

It's a move a seller would make as Golden, although he clearly wasn't a fit for DC Patrick Graham's scheme, had notched 1.5 sacks as a pass-rushing specialist to date. The Cardinals will take on his $3.65 million cap hit while the deal leaves behind $1.4 million in dead cap for New York. This move improves Arizona's third-down defense dramatically since the team is already fielding one of the better coverage units in the entire league.

Antonio Brown WR, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Bucs signed Antonio Brown to a one-year contract.

The final details of the contract have to be finalized and Brown must go through COVID-19 protocols, but Brown is eligible to play as soon as Week 9 according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. Brown and Tom Brady have a relationship dating back years, and Tampa Bay is all in for a 2020 Super Bowl run. For fantasy, it will be difficult for Brown, Chris Godwin, and Mike Evans to see sustained production unless Brady turns into a true MVP candidate for the rest of the season. Brown's upside, however, is undeniable, making him at least a WR3/flex option once he gets his feet wet in the new system. Mr. Big Chest will have to keep his head on straight to make this signing pay off.

    Dez Bryant WR, Baltimore Ravens
Ravens signed WR Dez Bryant to their practice squad.

At long last, Bryant is with the Ravens after working out for the team in August. Bryant has been out of the league since tearing his Achilles' tendon with the Saints last year. He could be a decent speculative add in super-deep fantasy leagues, but it's hard to imagine the Ravens offense supporting another fantasy relevant pass catcher.

    Dontari Poe DL, Dallas Cowboys
The Cowboys have told DT Dontari Poe and CB Daryl Worley they’ll be released if they can’t be traded this week.

Poe hasn't done much this season, posting seven tackles on a 53% snap rate. He hasn't looked the same since tearing his quad late last year. Poe is signed through 2021, but Dallas can save $3.2 million from trading him. The Cowboys are also expected to move on from Worley after benching him in Week 7.

    Adam Shaheen TE, Miami Dolphins
Dolphins signed TE Adam Shaheen to a two-year, $7.65 million contract.

The deal contains $3.2 million fully guaranteed. Miami traded a conditional seventh-round pick for Shaheen back in July. He's played 32% of snaps as the No. 2 tight end behind Mike Gesicki and is coming off a 3/51/1 line in Week 7. Shaheen's extension keeps him in Miami through 2022.

    Carlos Dunlap DL, Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks acquired DE Carlos Dunlap from the Bengals for OL B.J. Finney and a seventh-round pick.

Dunlap was benched in Week 5 and had become a team distraction. It's possible a change of scenery will help, as Dunlap is just a year removed from a nine sack season. The Seahawks are taking on the rest of Dunlap's remaining $7.8 million salary and he's owed a non-guaranteed $11.25 million in 2021. Trading Dunlap leaves a total dead cap hit of $8.43 million for the Bengals over the next two seasons.

Daryl Worley DB, Unsigned Free Agent
    Cowboys released CB Daryl Worley.

Worley was benched after giving up a long touchdown to Christian Kirk in Week 6. He'd been playing heavy snaps for the injury-ravaged Cowboys on the back end but is already running out of chances in the NFL at age 25. Worley will be looking for his fifth team in as many years.

    Ronnie Stanley T, Baltimore Ravens
Ravens signed LT Ronnie Stanley to a five-year, $98.75 million contract.

It includes $70.9 million in guarantees. The $19.75 million APY makes Stanley the second-highest paid tackle in the league. Stanley was a first-team All-Pro last year and hasn't allowed a sack in five appearances this season. The Ravens have been aggressive in locking up contract-year players, with GM Eric DeCosta extending CB Marlon Humphrey earlier this month. 26-year-old Stanley is now signed through 2025.

Chargers send DB Desmond King to Titans
Los Angeles is sending Pro Bowl defensive back/kick returner Desmond King to the Titans in exchange for a sixth-round pick, according to NFL Media and ESPN. King, who is in the final year of his deal, has recorded 24 tackles and one sack in six games this season.

Saints acquire former Pro Bowler Kwon Alexander from 49ers
The New Orleans Saints are sending a conditional fifth-round pick and linebacker Kiko Alonso to San Francisco in exchange for Alexander, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. The two teams play each other in Week 10. The Saints are attempting to win at all costs, while 49ers general manager John Lynch was eager to get a big contract off the books.

Steelers acquire LB Avery Williamson following Devin Bush injury
Reserve linebacker Robert Spillane has played well post-injury to Bush but Pittsburgh has seen a past without solid linebacker play and it was not pretty. They bolstered their Super Bowl contending roster in the form of veteran LB Avery Williamson. ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Sunday night that the AFC team acquired Williamson and a 2020 seventh-round pick in exchange for a 2020 fifth-round pick. Williamson goes from the NFL's lone win-less team to the lone undefeated team; a reversal of fortunes overnight.

    DeAndre Washington RB, Miami Dolphins
Dolphins acquired RB DeAndre Washington from the Chiefs.

The compensation will almost certainly will be a conditional day-three pick. The Chiefs had too many running backs after signing Le'Veon Bell, and the Dolphins have a crowded, if underwhelming, running back room. Washington is capable of providing replacement-level depth on all three downs. It would take 2-3 injuries ahead of him for Washington to become a 2020 fantasy consideration.

Dante Pettis WR, Unsigned Free Agent
    49ers waived WR Dante Pettis.

Pettis had played only three snaps on offense since Week 3. The final straw was his lost fumble on his first career kickoff return against the Seahawks in Week 8. Pettis suffered a shoulder injury in the process. The 49ers traded up for Pettis in the second round of the 2018 draft, while he finished his rookie year strong. It has been one disaster after another since, with the 49ers routinely hinting at disappointment with Pettis' preparation and focus. Still only 25, Pettis is a talented player, but if coach Kyle Shanahan can't make it work, it is difficult to imagine someone else will be able to revive Pettis' career.

Johnathan Joseph DB, Unsigned Free Agent
    Titans released CB Johnathan Joseph.

Signed in April, 36-year-old Joseph was having an up-and-down season before getting unmasked against the Bengals in Week 8. Joe Burrow relentlessly exploited the veteran's coverage. Joseph has played 375 snaps this season, so it will require major adjustments for the Titans' struggling defense. They will move forward with Malcolm Butler, Kristian Fulton and Chris Jackson as their top-three corners. Adoree' Jackson (knee) is on injured reserve.

Vic Beasley DL, Unsigned Free Agent
    Titans released OLB Vic Beasley.

The Titans came into the offseason desperate for pass-rushing help, but this signing seemed like a disaster from Day 1. Beasley was late to report to training camp and then proceeded to make just 3.0 tackles across five games. Tennessee is bottom-three in sacks (7.0) through eight weeks and still find Beasley worth releasing. He signed a one-year, $9.5 million contract this offseason.

    Johnathan Joseph DB, Arizona Cardinals
Cardinals agreed to terms with CB Johnathan Joseph.

It's unclear if Joseph is signing to the practice squad or active roster, but it's likely the active roster since his addition comes just two days after he was released by the Titans. Joseph was brutally bad in Tennessee, but the Cardinals are struggling for answers at cornerback right now. Joseph will be ineligible to suit up for Week 9 against the Dolphins, but he figures to immediately mix in for snaps after that.

    Alex Collins RB, Seattle Seahawks
Seahawks promoted RB Alex Collins from the practice squad.

Collins was just signed to the practice squad eight days ago, but coach Pete Carroll has already said he will be "very comfortable" with Collins getting reps against the Bills on Sunday. Chris Carson (foot) and Carlos Hyde (hamstring) are both out for the second consecutive week. DeeJay Dallas figures to lead the Seahawks' backfield, but Collins will probably mix in for some touches on early downs. Travis Homer will mix in for a few touches, but Dallas is the only back we would be comfortable FLEXing in fantasy.
