Cam Newton is a Patriot

WTCMWTCM Posts: 12,174
Former NFL MVP Cam Newton has reached agreement on a one-year, incentive-laden deal with the New England Patriots, league sources tell @mortreport and me. Newton now will step into the mix to try to help replace former Patriots’ QB Tom Brady.

Dang.......best place for Cam to sign. Should be the starter Day1.
  • farfromhomefarfromhome Posts: 1,922
Cam is starting by week 5....bill wants to win without Tom as much as Tom wants to win without bill....zero percent chance they plug along an average team with cam holding a clipboard...stidham needs to win week 1....I feel cam and Pats is a solid match....Patriot haters gotta be sad
  • I definitely agree - best match for both parties involved.

Cam is the de facto starter now. Stidham will continue carrying the clipboard and training to be a coach.

I honestly think this signing puts the Pats back in front as divisional winners.

I snagged Newton off the trash heap in a 10 team No-PPR limited (3 max.) keeper league. I will be keeping Sanders and Drake for 7.01 and 9.01 and then have to decide between Newton for 8.10 and AJ Brown for 15.01

I have all those exact players. I have up until my draft to decide to keep Cam and will likely keep him now. He costs me a very cap friendly $7.25 out of a $200 salary cap league. I’m pretty sure he’s now back up into the top 10 range so that’s good value for a starter. Got Daniel Jones who I would’ve used as my starter at $2.75 and he’d make a great backup now. Things falling into shape for me now.

Ya... I will probably keep Brown. Although it is No-PPR and all TDs = 6, so, Newton is a possibility. But, Brown is probably a better value

I also have Zeke who I will drop since I won the 1.01 in the 3 week round-robin consolation tournament and will redraft him.

I could keep Derrick Henry who would cost me my 5.01, but, then I could only keep 2 instead of 3 players. I might still keep Henry. But, I like starting my draft with 3 studs before I use the 1.01 to take Zeke.

Last year was totally frustrating as I had a team that could have won, but, each week I kept running into that opponent's best game. I blew through the teams in the consolation tournament with Kittle, Evans and Chark also on that team

There is no keeper format where I’d keep Cam over AJ Brown...throw on top of that you’d keep Brown in round 15 but Cam in round 8 and it is a no-brainer....don’t over think this!

No argument... keepers are not declared until a few days before the draft in late August or early September. Plus, as you sort of alluded to, there are lots of QBs to be had.

Although, I think that one team will be spending its keeper capital to keep BOTH Mahomes (pick 3.05) and Lamar Jackson (pick 6.06). This man LOVES his QBs. He could surprise me as he has some interesting options (Golladay for 5.07 and Sutton for 13.07 and Marquise Brown for 15.07). Actually he could keep Jackson plus Sutton and Brown. Can't keep all three WRs due to the keeper rules. But, I am still predicting that he will keep the QBs. He does not have any RBs worth keeping due to their cost.

I also have Harry! Lol. Rather than not keep Cam and get nothing for him I think I’ll let this play out more during preseason, I have enough time for my draft. I got AJ Brown penciled in as my WR2.

What do u really think you can get for Cam? 1qb, SuperFlex, 2qb. I’d say he is a hold w massive upside

I went to bed, slept on it and woke up with this conclusion myself now. Timing is everything in fantasy - with this signing if you were to try to move Cam itd be too obvious you were trying to sell high I think. To me it’s be better to have him play a few preseason games, get named the starter for sure, and then try to cash in if needed.
  • You can always test the trade waters now (taking advantage of the hype) and if you don’t get proper value, then just don’t trade him until later.

  • chaindog35chaindog35 Posts: 493
Yeah, I would see what I could get to move him now. If you don’t get enough, just hold him.

In the 1-year deal for #Patriots QB Cam Newton, the team guaranteed him just $550K — on a $1.05M total base. The definition of low-risk. The reward comes in $700k in per-game rosters bonuses and another $5.75M in incentives. The max is $7.5M in all.

Crazy in this day and age of sports players making so much money that a former mvp at 31 is only guaranteed to make 550....cam is betting on himself....

What if Stidham is actually good, and beats our Cam? I don't think its far fetched out bad Cam has played the last few years.
    QB: Cousins, Jackson Bortles, Dalton
RB: Mixon, Hunt, Coleman, Ware, Breida
WR: Julio, M Thomas, Golladay, DT, Crabtree, Agholor, Higgins , Moncrief
    TE: Gronk, Rudy, ASJ, Kittle
    DST: LA Rams

Just ask any Auburn or SEC fan if Cam is better than Stidham. Im betting on Cam. I think Hoodie & Jr Hoodie will play to Cams strengths. I could see Cam run for 10Td's this season.

Although I see cam starting by week 6 I wouldn't be super surprised if this happens...based on skill set he seems to fit what the offense wants to better than cam...the problem is if he doesn't come out of the gate and win games immediately the pressure to win will favor cam....should be fun to watch
