|1.03||Ezekiel Elliott||RB||DAL||As said with LBell, if I had the 1.01 in let's say three drafts, I would grab Zeke with one of those 1.01 selections. I wouldn't put all my eggs in one basket, but in one league I would absolutely take the chance. That gives you a feel for the mix of risk and reward that comes along with him in 2018.|
Ezekiel Elliott was huge two seasons ago, during his rookie year… he ran for 1631 yards and 15TDs, and he pulled in 32 passes for 363 yards and 1TD. The dude had seven 100-yard games. Zeke entered 2018 with all kinds of drama attached to his name. Suspension delay after suspension delay, it was a mess, and he missed six games after eventually failing to outrun the league-awarded six-game punishment. Despite the drama, Zeke still managed 983 rushing yards and 7TDs on the ground, while adding 26/269/2TDs through the air. On 16 games, that pace would have put him at 1572 rushing yards and 11TDs, with 41 receptions for 430 yards and 3TDs. The numbers don’t lie, and given his 25-played games in the NFL, history is trying to tell us that a 1600/14-15TD rushing season is on the way (with 40/400/2-4TDs through the air). That makes him 1.01 worthy. I fortunately have the 1.01 in a couple leagues this year, and while I won’t draft him in all leagues (so that I do not put all my eggs in one basket), I can tell you that I absolutely plan to draft Ezekiel Elliott at 1.01 in one of those leagues.
Smitty’s Take: Look, if you own David Johnson, you are frustrated. There is no other way around that fact. However, you should not be selling low on a guy that just eight quarters ago cost you a top 4 overall pick in your fantasy draft. The Cardinals’ coach Steve Wilks promised on Monday that the team will use Johnson in more routes in the slot going forward, and this will surely help. Is there still risk that DJ has just a flat-out disappointing season in 2018? Sure, but again, selling low is not a good way out of this. Unless you can give up something not too mission critical in addition to DJ and still get an undervalued Kareem Hunt or Zeke Elliott, there aren’t a lot of lateral moves to make. I do love both of those ideas, though, if you are in need of an trade idea involving David Johnson.
